A tailor-made trip to Egypt

If you do not have a specific idea of which places to visit, as a guide in Egypt, I offer various programs to help you create a tailor-made trip. They can also serve as a basis for imagining the day or days you would like to spend. I indicate schedules and places to visit, but if you wish to change something, I will adapt without any problem, as long as it is feasible, of course. Indeed, the road networks are very different from those in Europe, and traffic in Cairo is very dense. The number of kilometers is not a reliable way to estimate travel time.

If you are coming to Cairo for the first time, you will find programs including the so-called must-see places. On the other hand, if you have already visited Cairo several times, I offer excursions that take you off the beaten path.

Some possible programs in Egypt

I will let you familiarize yourself with the different programs and specify, for your information, that:

To help you better understand the history of Egypt, and learn the story of the creation of the world among the pharaohs, I suggest organizing our visits in chronological order.

Around 8 a.m., we will head towards Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, built by Menes, who unified Lower and Upper Egypt. This city is now an open-air museum. We will see the largest statue of Ramses II, lying on the ground. There are also many other statues (dating from various periods) as well as a sphinx.

Next, we will go to Saqqara to visit the funerary complex (built by the architect Imhotep) of King Djoser and his pyramid — known as the “Step Pyramid,” the first in the world.
First, we will visit the Step Pyramid and the open-air courtyard where the king celebrated the Heb Sed festival (the jubilee). We will climb up the plateaus to enjoy a panoramic view of Saqqara. From there, we will see in the distance the Black Pyramid, as well as those of Dahshur, Giza, Abu Sir, Unas, Teti, and finally the Southern Tomb.

After that, we will head to the other side of Saqqara, where the tombs of the priests are located. It is possible to visit the tomb of Kagemni as well as the interior of the Pyramid of Teti to admire the hieroglyphic inscriptions.

We will then drive to Dahshur, a typical village that includes a military area, where it is possible to visit the interior of the Red Pyramid for free. We will also see the Bent Pyramid of King Sneferu, the father of Cheops (Khufu).

For lunch, you will have the choice: typical restaurant, sandwich at felfela (terrace with a view of the pyramids of Giza), KFC, pizza hut, restaurant at the Mena House hotel...

In the afternoon, we will go to the Pyramids of Giza. We will start with a panoramic view, where you can take photos. We will then stop in front of each pyramid. I will explain the history of each one, and you will be able to ask your questions. I will give you some free time to walk around and take photos if you wish. Please note that visiting the Great Pyramid or the Second Pyramid, the Solar Boat Museum, and a camel ride are optional activities available upon request.

Next, we will discover the Valley Temple of King Chephren as well as the Sphinx. To finish, we can sit in a nearby café to relax and chat together.

We will start by visiting the Egyptian Museum, located in the city center. It is divided into two floors and contains 150,000 original pieces (except for the Rosetta Stone) that tell the story of Egypt.
Before its construction in 1899, there was another museum in Cairo, located in a district called “Beaux Lacs”, on the banks of the Nile. Its statues were later moved to the Citadel of Salah El-Din.

We will begin with the ground floor, then continue to the upper floor, where I will tell you about the most important pieces in Egyptian history. Afterwards, I will give you some free time to visit the Mummies Hall, if you wish. Finally, I will wait for you at the cafeteria to chat and answer your questions.

Next, we will go to Old Cairo. Since the program is organized in historical order, we will start by visiting a synagogue. I will tell you about the history of Judaism, from 1290 BC (the period of Ramses) up to the present day.
After that, we will visit the Church of Saint Sergius, where we will see the crypt of the Holy Family. We will continue with a visit to the Hanging Church, where filming is allowed. I will explain how Christianity arrived in Egypt.

After lunch, we will discover the citadel and then the most beautiful mosque in Egypt, Mohamed Ali, built in 1830.

To finish, we will take a 40-minute walk from Bab El-Foutouh to Khan El-Khalili. Along the way, we will observe the style of Islamic architecture, the houses, the caravanserais, the sabils, the madrasas, and the cafés.

Next, we will discover the Valley Temple of King Chephren as well as the Sphinx. To end the day, we can sit in a nearby café to relax and talk together.

We will visit two pyramids:

Meidum

It was once thought that it had been started by King Huni (the last pharaoh of the 3rd dynasty), but today Egyptologists prefer to attribute the beginning of its construction to King Sneferu. It is a monument that was built with the intention of achieving the shape of an eight-step pyramid.

The Meidum complex consists of two temples connected by a ramp, and then the pyramid itself. The funerary temple located on the side of the pyramid is made of Tura limestone and is quite well preserved. Inside, there are two small rooms with the location of the altar and two uninscribed stelae. Another temple was located in the valley near the water, intended to receive the body of the king after his death.

Haouara

It was designed to be the tomb of King Amenemhat III. We descend to admire it more closely. This construction dates from the Middle Kingdom (12th Dynasty, around 1950 BC). The pinnacle of Egyptian architecture is evident in the Great Pyramid of King Cheops. It is made of mud bricks, but the interior is carved from the rock. Originally, it was covered with limestone blocks. This covering has now disappeared.

After exploring the pyramids, we'll have lunch in the El Rayanne Valley, where we can also see the catharacts.
Finally, we'll head into the desert to observe the skeletons of whales stranded in the desert.
